The penguins once on the mainland were taken either to
SANCCOB's headquarters or to the specially constructed temporary
rehabilitation centre at Salt River. Here a facility able to
handle up to 20,000 penguins was set up in just a few days with the help
of an expert team that flew in from around
the world.under the auspices of IFAW. The photo shows just a glimpse of some of the many
pools that were used to house the oiled birds. As they were
cleaned so they were moved into larger pens outside, where they could
build up their strength before being released. |
