What is a penguin's diet?Penguins have a diet entirely of sea-food. Different penguin species will eat different types of fish, squid and crustacean and even within a single species and colony there is considerable variation in the actual prey species. The most commonly taken prey for penguins is krill - a small shrimp-like crustacean that is extremely plentiful in the Southern Oceans. There are some average diets for each penguin species in the "detailed species notes" section. |
