Boulders Beach is about 2km south of Simon's
Town. Either drive or take the train from
Cape Town to Simon's Town and then walk (or take a taxi) south along the coast until you
come to the footpath down to Boulders Beach. There is a guesthouse right by the car park
so you could stay there and listen to the penguins all night! The second mainland
colony is harder to find, it is at Stony Point in Betty's Bay about 30km west of Cape Town
- you will need to drive there.
There is a third, very small colony (only about
10-20 birds) at Lambert's Bay, about
300km north of Cape Town. It is worth a visit, however, to see the incredible gannet
colony there. You would need to drive there.
Robben
Island is a museum and is only accessible via the Robben Island ferry as
part of a guided tour around the Island and the Prison. Tours leave the V
& A Waterfront in Cape Town every hour or so every day.
