They also offer a 'Lost Islands' cruise that visits Tristan da Cunha and Gough Island. A and K also offer trips with other operators on the Kapitan Klebnikov and other ships and can arrange travel more or less anywhere in the world.

Trips on the 38 passenger Livonia to the Antarctic Peninsula.
Orient Lines 1510 SE 17 St., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316, USA tel: (1) 954 527 7300

fax: (1) 954 527 6657

Orient Lines operate the luxury liner Marco Polo. It 'only' takes 400 passengers on its Antarctic Cruises - just quick trips to the peninsula. With so many passengers on a ship you will not get much time ashore and you will always be in a crowd. Hardly the best way to get an idea of the isolation of Antarctica.
Quark Expeditions 980 Post Road, Darien, CT 06820 USA tel: (1) 203 656 0499

fax: (1) 203 655 6623

Quark operate the Klebnikov, a converted Russian ice breaker. The Klebnikov, which can accommodate about 100 passengers, also carries two helicopters for ice reconnaissance and to ferry passengers to remote locations. The Klebnikov is the ship most able to get to remote areas in and around Antarctica. Quark Expeditions operate some of the more unusual trips to Antarctica. For example they recently did a circumnavigation of the continent on the Klebnikov. Also they operate trips to Kerguelen, Heard etc.
Society Expeditions 2001 Western Avenue, Suite 300, Seattle WA 98121, USA tel: +1 206 728 9400

fax: +1 206 728 2301

Society Expeditions operate the 138 passenger New World Discoverer. Most trips are short voyages from Ushuaia to the Antarctic peninsula but there are some trips that take in the Falklands and even South Georgia. If you want some luxury and don't mind a larger ship this could be the one for you.
